Is WayB Pico Car Seat Worth the Hype? Mom of 2 Reviews

Do you want to travel with ease and ensure your toddler is safe on the plane, in taxis, and in cars but don’t wanna lug around a huge car seat with you? I can relate. With a trip to St Louis around the corner, I started researching compact, portable, and convenient travel car seat options. However, my challenge was finding one suitable for my taller kids (my husband is 6’6). 

At this point, they have outgrown the Doona (which is an awesome option if you have babies by the way) and while the Cosco Scenera is lightweight and affordable, it’s not the most convenient to carry around.

Next up was the RideSafe Vest which caught my attention, however, my daughter didn’t fit the requirements to use one at the time and honestly, with her size and age range she would have to be rear-facing as it was the safest option. 

So I kept searching, and I noticed the WayB Pico car seat was being talked about frequently on every platform! 

As someone who has traveled with my two toddlers since my youngest was 16 weeks old, I have tested and tried out many toddler travel products and reviewed them on this blog! 

The WayB Pico car seat was being hyped up and caught my attention. The travel backpack that it came with was something I hadn’t seen other car seats offer so I kept reading more and more about it. It’s the easiest luggage to handle, and it is convenient and safe as a secondary seat. 

So is the Wayb Pico car seat worth it? Yes, but it’s not perfect.

Wayb Pico Dimensions And Size

The WayB Pico car seat is unique among travel car seats due to its compact and foldable design. 

Here are the dimensions and size details:

– Weighs only 8 lbs

– Forward-facing car seat suitable for kids weighing 22-50 lbs and measuring 30-45 inches

– Recommended for ages 2+ til outgrown (around 4-6 years old)

– 18.9” H when folded

– 22.8” H in its lowest use position

– 27.8” H in its tallest usage position

– 11.6” L x 14.5” W in its storage position

– ears must be contained within the headrest

Despite its compact size, the comfort of the Wayb Pico car seat doesn’t seem to be an issue, and kids don’t seem to mind the simplicity compared to the larger and more spacious everyday car seats at home.

Pros Of WayB Pico Car Seat

Here are some of the pros of the WayB Pico car seat:

• it’s lightweight (one of the lightest car seats out there)
• easily portable
• The narrowest car seat 
• easy to set up
• Convenient for travel
• foldable
• the travel bag is spacious and makes it easy to transport the car seat through the airport 
• you can add extra items to the bag 
• can store it in the overhead compartment of the plane 
• Great option if you need to fit 3 car seats in one row in your vehicle

Things to Consider

Here are some important points to consider about the WayB Pico car seat:

• this is a FORWARD-facing travel seat
• your toddler needs to meet the age and size requirements
• cannot be under 2 years old
• If your toddler is less than 22 lbs and 30” inches, the Pico won’t be suitable until they are a little older.
• The crotch buckle/ strap can get a little tight after a while. In such cases, you can place a shirt or something similar down there for added comfort during long trips. You cannot adjust the crotch buckle.
• Seatbelt installation can be a bit challenging so practice beforehand
• the cost of the car seat may be a drawback for some parents
• If traveling internationally you will need a locking clip

Using WayB Pico on Plane

When using the Wayb Pico car seat on a plane, the car seat truly excels. Once you get on the plane, effortlessly unfold the car seat, buckle it in, and have your little one secured in just a few minutes. It’s that amazing. 

One important thing to keep in mind is that if you’re traveling internationally, you will need a locking clip.

The seat is FAA-approved, which is very important because otherwise, flight attendants won’t allow its use. Additionally, the travel backpack/storage bag fits in the overhead compartment, making it incredibly convenient for travel and worth the hype. 

Using WayB Pico in Ubers and Cars

The Wayb Pico car seat is quite easy to install, especially after some practice at home. A friend of mine was able to set it up in a dark rental car parking garage without any trouble.

 It has been a lifesaver for me when using Uber or Lyft because I can quickly install and remove it. The taxi driver was caught off guard when I pulled out the seat from the backpack; he had never seen anything like it. 

The best part is that by the time my husband loads our suitcases in the trunk, the Wayb Pico is installed and my child is in. Wayb Pico car seat is also very convenient for unexpected carpool situations and for all types of transportation where we have to be in and out quickly.

Safety And Testing

I think every parent can agree that the safety of our children is our top priority. Initially, I had some concerns about the WayB Pico car seat. However, their website clearly states that it meets all U.S. safety standards for motor vehicles and planes (NHTSA) and the (FAA). 

Being FAA-approved, it also has a sticker on the side of the seat for flight attendants to check if needed.

Installing the Pico On the Plane

Installing the Wayb Pico car seat on the plane is very easy, but it’s important to review the instruction manual and practice folding and installing it before your trip. Trust me, it’s better to be prepared than to stress out on the day of travel. 

The flight attendants were surprised when they saw the car seat being pulled out of the backpack, probably because they were used to seeing regular-sized car seats in the cabin. The best part is that you can set it up without any assistance. 

After locking the red folding pin, the Pico is secured to the seat using only the plane’s lap belt. It took less than a minute, and after a few adjustments, you’re ready for takeoff. 

Another important point is that using the Wayb Pico car seat on the plane does not affect the person in the seat behind you. It’s forward-facing, compact, and doesn’t require you to loop a harness buckle over the back of the seat behind the tray table. After the flight, simply unbuckle the belt and pull the red folding pin before placing it in your backpack. It’s as easy as that.

Installing the Pico In An SUV

The Wayb Pico car seat only has a forward-facing option. It’s a great choice for those who need three seats in a row in their SUV or car. Installing the Pico in an SUV or car is similar to installing it in a plane, but there is a small difference.

It could be more challenging, depending on whether your car is latch-equipped or not. If the vehicle is not latch-equipped, the WayB pico car seat includes additional instructions for installing the SUV seat belts.

This might take a couple of minutes longer to install, but it isn’t a deal-breaker for me as the WayB Pico isn’t our main choice for everyday use; it’s more for travel.

Price And Value

While the Wayb Pico car seat might seem pricey to some parents, its practicality and ease of use justify the cost, especially for those who travel often. It’s a smart investment, considering its adaptability – if your child outgrows it and you’re planning on expanding your family, you can hold onto it for future use. 

Plus, it retains its value remarkably well, meaning you can recoup a good portion of your investment when it’s time to sell, even after a year of use. I highly suggest choosing the WayB Pico travel bag and car seat combo for convenience.

In Conclusion

Overall, the WayB Pico car seat is one of the most unique products on the market. Its compact size and portability make it stand out on my “ top 5 best travel products” list. The part that sold me was that it provides a lot more structure than the Ride Safer vests which we can use now that my kids are older.

We wouldn’t use this car seat daily while at home because research does show that rear-facing for as long as possible is the safest option for little ones. However, for those parents who travel quite a bit like us, this is an absolute game changer. Especially for those with two toddlers! 

Being able to use it in a variety of transportation options such as Uber/Lyft/taxis, and airplanes makes it an all-in-one travel car seat and is much safer than renting one for example, and not knowing the status of the car seat and if it has been in an accident.

I highly recommend the WayB Pico car seat as it is one of a kind and is worth the investment for parents that love to travel. 

Overall Rating

I confidently rate the WAYB Pico car seat a 9.5 out of 10, earning its place as my top choice for a travel car seat. As you can probably already tell, I think it is definitely worth the hype!
